I will never EVER move to Germany….

Well as a famous Dane ones said

“Man har et standpunkt til man tager et nyt”…loosely translated to

“You make up your mind until you change it”

I would lie if I said that German was my favourite language in school.

As a Danish girl I had to take numerous lessons in German during my school years…years of German grammar and lessons on the second world war, the East/West conflict and so on…

No English was my favourite foreign language…so I moved to England in the late 90th….and married a German(Greek)!

How will I cope in this country where people can’t queue and national pride is something of a new invention…Well I have to give it a go for the family, even if the children at the moment would rather stay where they are as they cannot fathom the long term situation especially when it is balanced against their dear friends.

But I must admit that I am also very excited as there are many positive sides to this new lifestyle in this international city near the Alps.

Came and went...we drove a lot...through Europe to Croatia and Denmark and visited many countries, cities, family and friends…we LOVE Europe and all the different countries…and the great food!

One city that we especially enjoyed visiting was München(or Munich as it is known by most English speaking ppl) in Germany.

Towards the end of the summer it was clear to us that we wanted to move to München, as UK made it public that our kids would have to fund their own university education if we stayed here…and more.

We will of cause miss the UK and our friends here but there is just so much that a life in München can offer us that we cannot stay in this village on this island.

And according to the latest polls we are moving to THE "Most Liveable City"…Copenhagen is #2! So we might not be as happy as the Danish population, but quality of life should be THE best!

“Munich residents have a reason to toast themselves months before Oktoberfest this year, as the Bavarian city tops the list of Monocle Magazine's Quality of Life rankings for 2010 -- thus making it the world's "Most Liveable City."

So we have started 2011 with the BIG news that are leaving the UK this summer…

New car means new fancy car seat for some lucky girls…

Well her seat could not get fastened appropriately in the new car so a new seat with “Isofix” was a necessity

2010 is well on the go and so are we…in our “nearly new” Touran

And our first adventure will be a “short” drive to “Croatia” this summer.

(And I finally got my EU number plate after nearly 4 years of waiting)

The “Audi Allroad” has gone to a better home of a loving car engineer who knows how to take better care of all her special and expensive parts…

we will miss her

Just enjoyed a lovely walk through snowy Cambridge, there is just nothing more beautiful than the university buildings covered in the white stuff.

Sure we don’t have meters of snow like other parts of the country and it is far warmer than in the Scandinavian countries but this doesn’t keep the schools from closing “just in case”…go figure…

Either way we must enjoy this beautiful snow on our doorstep as long as it lasts…it’s just SO great

(And I’m SO pleased that I bought suitable snow suits for the children this autumn despite the warning of a “hot” winter…)

12th year out of Denmark and still very Danish…

Yes this summer it will be 12 years since I moved here to the United Kingdom yet I still find myself strangely split between the different countries.

But mainly when we talk about food…

I find myself embracing salad cream and English curries but I still have not come to terms with such foods as marmite and Christmas puddings.

My kitchen is a mix between Jamie Oliver & “Boller i karry”.

I am increasingly sharing Danish and non-Danish recipes with other Danes on Facebook and now I have even managed to “invite” a Danish machine(with thanks to my Mor/Mum) where I can bake very Danish æbleskiver into my kitchen..…

And with GREAT success!

Maybe this should not come as a surprise to many but I’m NOT married to another Dane and it is not all half Danish kids who loves traditionally Danish food such as rugbrød and risengrød.

A pancake-like dough that is baked into balls and eaten with jam and icing sugar…..and with this machine they are baked @ the table so it is a similar experience to sharing a fondue or raclette meal…..SO nice!

2010 here we come

The first flight is booked, even I will make it to Germany this year…….Denmark as well :o)

Never thought that I would miss all this travelling when I returned to work nearly 2 years ago, but I must admit that it is hard for me to be stationary…

I need a little bit of change and excitement in my life :o)

So extra holiday in 2010 will now allowing me to enjoy a bit more of the holidays with the children when they are out of school, something that happens a lot here in the UK.

Not that I am not enjoying my life here in the UK with lovely snow on my doorstep, the kids in a great school with lovely friends and Paris growing in his carrier…..and a great warm house…

2010 is looking bright for our family in so many ways…..so BRING IT ON!

2009 has started and the family is working on the house extension again.
Here it is the mosaics that Keenan and Opa are using for our new shower in the En-suite....it is looking very promising to the by-standers...and Maja thinks that it is a lovely Princess shower (that may relate to the shining mosaics)

The year 2009 is also looking promising in other ways as we are planning for a trip to Orlando to see "old" American friends after 3 years of separation.

It is not for sure that my excitement can be cept quiered for long ;o)

So I'm back on the horse and hope to report about new destinations and better living quarters here in the village.

A moment to reflect

23rd November and the first snow is mixing with the rain outside all day long.

Our kitchen is as good as finished and we just LOVE our new living area during the day

and during the evening

So now it is time to enjoy the space and the warmth and decorate our rooms with lots of "Nisser" for that Christmas feel.

Apple day

Fruit is something that most of us take for granted.

If it is the season for apples in UK or oranges and lemons in San Jose, California...the fruit is left on the trees to rot or on the ground for the cars to drive over.

We can always just buy it in the supermarket down the road!

So I really enjoy this special event here in UK!

It has NOTHING to do with believe or religion, it is simply a day to cherish the apple.

We had left the unused apples on the tree until the day for the same reason...so of they came...

and of to the local farm event where everything was ready for all the eager families and their apples.

Here the apples are cut into small pieces and the then squashed in this barrel to extract the juice.

The event also allowed all of us to enjoy some games, a puppet show(UK style), hog roast or hot dogs with the farms own sausages and some animals from the local zoo incl. this cute 4 months old "Barn Owl"

We have been on "Mount Etna"

As a part of our trip to Sicily in the beginning of September Paris and I decided to take the children to the very top of "Mount Etna"

It was a VERY hot day on the island so what could be better than a trip to the nice and cool Etna crater.

An hours drive plus a small encounter with a group of cows and some lunch in a restaurant on the side of the volcano and we had reached our destination.

And Pinkie made it as well ;o)

We paid the extraordinary expensive tickets...at least Maja was still free...and up the lift we went :o/

I think she enjoyed the first part of the journey.

The first part was a regular ski lift but that did NOT do it for us....OH NO!

We wanted to go ALL the way!

The next part had to be taken by these huge "Jeep buses" as you drive on small lava rocks.

We strapped us all in the back of the buss and after a rather rough trip we finally arrived as high up the volcano as we possibly could wish for ;o)

At first it looked a bit boring so Keenan and I tried to follow and understand the over tanned Italian guide and we soon found lots of excitement by removing the surface and feeling the warm lava just below our feet.

Paris and Maja found their own pace and we all REALLY enjoyed the whole experience...worth ALL the money!

A lovely Friday lunchtime Paris and I ventured south on the M11 to envision OUR piece of granite for the new kitchen that will arrive mid October.

With all the excitement and anticipation we rolled up to this door wondering IF this would be the place for "star galaxy granite"...

But opening this door revealed a COMPLETELY different world all together.

Pieces upon pieces of finished slates of granite....and in the very corner of the HUGE hall there was a little but fancy office.

And through another door the vision changed AGAIN to THIS

We soon located the stone for our kitchen and here it is!

Paris just looks SO official with the papers under the arm ;o)

They came, the saw, they worked hard, they drank some beer and they left only 4 days later.

And then we had a little social time in Cambridge, just so that they could say that they had been IN Cambridge, not just BY Cambridge ;o)

Stefan the main German says that our front door is very nice and would look nice in a garden shed....and he is finding the ceiling a little low as he has to bend his head to walk through our doors inside the house...LOL

They are funny these tall Germans...and very efficient, that I must give them ;o)

A trip to Germany to see the kids.

It's Friday night for Paris and I and after 1 1/2 weeks of not seeing our kids we can now finally get to kiss them again...for a limited time only...suitcases are packed so it is off to Stansted airport.

Park the car...on the park & Ride buss....get to terminal...and then....waiting for EVER between pushy Germans who don't know how to Q!!!

Anyway...I'm no spring chicken in this business of travelling so my shoulders suddenly grow very wide and NO ONE passes me before the final call!!!

On the flight for an hour and a bit of a hard landing...but all in all...8/10 compared to our usual experiences with Ryanair...and our German fellows ;o)

A little waiting for father-in-law and an hour in the car....and THEN kissy, kissy, kissy....sooooooooooo nice to finally be there and kiss the kids who where so lovely and sleeping @ 12am ;o)

Next day it was first of all time for Paris and I to kiss the kids a little more and then meet with the company who will deliver our kitchen...sooo cool but hard to picture for the blog.

And then it was party time.

Up in the German mountains to visit friends where we finally had time to play and Paris found his usual spot....at the BBQ feeding all the guests

We just had a great time and after seeing the windows, door and "Markise" for our house it was time to fly back home...so now it will be another 2 WEEKS with Skype calls till we get our little ones back....but then we will have new windows and front door as the Germans are arriving on Monday next WEEK!

It's just SO cool....can't wait to see the result.

Paris and I enjoyed Camping with Keenan before Maja's arrival and now we have decided that it is time for us to try it again with this cool tent, "Vermont M" from "Outwell".

Keenan has since he was just 3 years old been amacing his parents with his sense for space.

(This train was build single handily by Keenan after watching a German DVD about a locomotive driver called "Lukas der Lokomotivführer ")

And even with Maja's arrival he found a way to continue his creations around this new obstacle.

Now it seems that Keenan is becoming a gardener @ an early age.

The builders who has been dominating our shared drive as both our neighbour and us are extending our houses, this little stretch was getting a little ugly since I did not want to waist time and money on improvements till next summer.

But Keenan grabbed the opportunity and created this on his own...without his parents knowledge ;o)

And WHY did we spend so much money on toys for this boy....Lego go home...Keenan can make his own truck from boxes just like this....and the wheels can turn and EVERYTHING...Keenan says...LOL

After a few days of suspicion from his VERY surprised parents he admitted and then his "Mormor", who happened to come around this weekend, was happily willing to adjust the rest of the hair to match :o/

'cause "Mor" is going back 2 work...

April 29th 2008 will be a significant Tuesday in our family's life as the day when I was offered to return to work @ a company here in the Cambridgeshire countryside.

After 6 YEARS as a full time mother for our lovely kids I feel that it is time for me to return to work and develop myself.

It is of cause with a mix of emotions that I make this move but I have had a job offer that is "2-good-2-miss"

All of this would of cause not be possible without the support and help from the greatest husband who I am so lucky to celebrate my 6th anniversary with this Sunday 4th May.

Summer is arriving

So the trampoline has been cleaned with all the enthusiasm of our 6 year old boy who just can't stop working in the garden.

Maja just want to jump and jump and play with her babies in the stroller.

But the sign that REALLY proves that summer IS coming is when our Papa turns on that BBQ...M..M..M...Greek BBQ...and do I need to point out that leftovers do not exist after such a mealtime ;o)

"Horton Hears a who"

As the rain was coming down on us this Friday morning I bravely made the decision to open up the world of cinema to our little girl.

And there was pop corn as the three of us enjoyed this great & funny Dr Seuss film with an Elephant standing up for his believes.

Keenan and I surely had a laugh as always and Maja was talking of nothing else when the family settled for dinnertime with Papa.

Grand Arcade Cambridge

Going to town on the "Park & Ride" buss is always a treat in the children's eyes, but going on the buss & arriving for the Grand Arcade opening was just to good to be true.

Especially for Keenan who has been watching the cranes over Cambridge for the last couple of years!

So at last it was the day and the weather seemed to agree as we arrived and the sun was beaming down on everything and everybody.

We watched as the mayor of Cambridge cut the rope and the Q of people who had been waiting since 8.30am nearly ran through the gate...the children and I relaxed and waited till it was safer for Maja to enter ;o{}

We then used my broad shoulders to move through the Arcade till we made it to our trusted cafe in the other end where the Arcade is joined with the older strip named "Lion Yard".

Here we sat down and enjoyed a refreshing fresh orange juice and Capuchino.

After a while things had calmed down so we visited a few shops including the new Apple shop and looted some Apple t-shirts for Papa(size L) and a lot of non-plastic advertisement bags from fancy lady clothes shops where I would rather die than shop :o/

I SO hope than we soon will have an Esprit shop as promised.

But then there was this spectacular show and me and the kids truly enjoyed every moment....I think the picture speaks for itself ;o)

And then there was sushi, soup, baguette and that man from "The Salvation Army" who Keenan thought was a pilot from Cambridge airport...Bless!

An Easter Bunny..of SNOW!?

Easter morning was finally here and a lot of......SNOW!?

In Denmark we do say that Christmas goes on until Easter but this was more as if Easter was Christmas!

But a lot of fun it was for all of us.

First there was Easter Egg hunting with easy "Easter Bunny-footprints" to follow.

Thank God for the snowsuits and good gloves and hats ;o)

And then Papa got all excited and had to take the kids on our sledge.....how lucky that he was home for the snow this winter.....spring ;o)

Whatever the weather

Preparations for the house extension has begun even though we still have not assigned the builder officially yet.

But Paris is so excited that even with jet-lag still bothering him the weather was not going to!

So even though that it was constantly changing between heavy rain, snow and hail this tree had to come down and my two men went to work.

And here is the last peace being carried away and Paris announcing to me that our two years of waiting soon will be over...."touch wood"

Easter preparations

The Easter excitement has arrived along wit our Papa and we are now actively preparing for Sunday morning ;o)

This year I have chosen to use duck eggs for my egg painting since it is impossible to buy white chicken eggs here in UK....and what a beautiful result!

They just have such a natural beauty about them!

Keenan is still blowing chicken eggs since the duck eggs are much harder to blow...I think my cheeks has returned to normal size now ;oo

This cool car seat was spotted as I attended some morning grocery shopping in Tescos.

The deal was to good to be true....£35 for a Maxi Cosi seat...home I went with my blood rushing through my veins....found the seat on the Internet for the wast value of £95!

And VERY good ratings!

And was the girl pleased as well?

Well I think so ;o)

An Easter DHL box

The doorbell rang so many times and so fast that the box around the doorbell fell OFF!

Who could THAT be...Keenan was not returning from school for another 45 minutes and he has to be collected from the buss!

No, there was a stressed DHL delivery man with a BIG and HEAVY yellow DHL box...from Oma & Opa!

In it came and the excitement built since Maja and I wanted to wait for keenan(who was on the buss) and Papa Paris(who was busy on the phone in Japan)

And here it is...full of chocolate, colouring sets and playmobil for the kids and vine glasses and chocolate for us adults...all opened with Papa Paris on skype to witness the excitement...so amazing to be able to share these moments with the whole family when work pulls us apart this way.

A Mothers day in London

Friday evening my lovely husband of nearly 6 years announced that since it was my birthday AND Mothering Sunday this weekend the whole weekend was MINE!

This meant that we all where to go to London Saturday morning on a "grande" family outing.

So Saturday morning we "suffered" a regular breakfast...in Keenan's eyes...and ventured to Cambridge train station.

And with the sun in our eyes we enjoyed a few treats whilst we waited with some patience doing the 45 minutes train journey.
Once in London it was a lot of underground traveling as expected and by lunchtime we where STARVING!

BUT we where eating @ "Scandinavian Kitchen" this lunchtime so with the water running between our teeth as we past one venue after another we managed to make our way to "Bronte's" cafe on 61 Great Titchfield Street where we enjoyed a lovely rye bread feast and the lovely company of Bronte herself....and this is where Keenan would like me to mention the lolly pops they charmed there way to....and I will mention the "Herring" that Paris and I where finally able to buy i slightly lager quantities ;o)

After our lunch we browsed on and around Oxford Street and I must say that the funniest was when I passed a few Brits exclaiming;

"But there is nothing here so why are we here"

Good point as Oxford street is mainly full of High street shops...but I HAD to laugh.

AND

"I didn't realise that London was this big a city?!"

hmmmm, not that surprising with an official population of 7,512,400 people :o)

@ 3.30pm it was time for our next treat of the day...a journey on the "London eye".

With prepaid tickets we thought that it would be a Q-free experience but THAT was not the case AT all.

The tickets where easy to collect from a machine but the Q was up to 30 minutes.

So with a deep breath we lined up with all the other hope fulls and the Q moved on steadily.

Sooner than expected we arrived to our cubicle and up we went whilst I quietly prayed that Maja would not need to relieve herself whilst in this locked up.

And we truly enjoyed the view as Keenan told us about how people had fled in those ships down THERE during the"Great fire of London"....in year 1666...it might have been some different boats ;o)

And that his friend Henry had staid in that hotel over THERE as he had told how he had been woken by "Big Ben".....a long time ago....LOL....they are 6 years old ;o)

After this resting tourist experience it was time for some more tourist walking before dinner.

And the children and I found found a GREAT tourist activity on Leicester Square...placing our hands in the molds of the movie stars hand prints.

Keenan is trying the prints of "Sylvester Stallone"...good luck...And Maja's I don't remember :o/

After that it was time for dinner @ the usual Mexican where I with some few crocodile tears lurching behind my eyes and a few comments to the manager about how I remembered this to be a great restaurant fought my way to a table NOT next to the kitchen.

I made my husband proud ;o)

Then it was time to leave London as the city was "heating up" for the night so we journeyed yet again towards the underground as we longed for the quiet countryside by Cambridge.

That we are with this young band from Denmark who just entered the chart today here in UK.

The song they are having success with is "Fascination" but our favourite in the family is this song called "Boyfriend".
(I got the CD from Denmark for my birthday today...just great happy music...and the children are singing along two...LOL)

After 2 months of near constant work I have now finished this beautiful work of art...Cross Stitch ...thank you for your Patience with me, Paris.

Our family started @ the entry to this millennium.
Paris and I did meet at the train station here in Cambridge, UK and our life together has moved on VERY fast since then.
Our first child arrived only 2 years after the beginning and then we where a FAMILY.
Soon after...read 7 months...the three of us ventured of to San Jose in California where Paris worked and I adjusted to motherhood.
We bought a house and settled in and then came our second baby, just 3 years and 2 weeks after her brother.

But the travelling was to much for our family so in 2006 we returned to Cambridge...well a village in the outskirts of this beautiful city.

Now our live is calming down which can be difficult for me since Paris is still travelling the world whilst I do the school run.

But we are extending our house so something is happening around here...so watch this space!
